Online Bill Payment is Now Available!

January 18, 2008

Taxpayers may pay their bills online at http://crotontwp.is.bsasoftware.com.  Electronic checks will have a fee of $3.00 and to pay by credit card there is a 3% fee.   This service will be available ONLY online.

Taxpayers may also view their tax bills at the same site.   There is no fee for taxpayers and a small fee for commercial users to view tax bills.

DUE DATE:  The tax bill due date is 2/14/2008.  On 2/15/2008 penalties and interest begin to accrue.  As of  March 1, delinquent bills must be paid to the Newaygo County Treasurer and more interest is applied.

TIPS:       If you cannot pay your entire bill, you may pay installments towards it.   This will reduce any interest and penalties applied after 2/14/2008.   You will not receive a statement/receipt until you have paid your entire tax bill, unless you send a self-addressed stamped envelope.

STATE HOMESTEAD CREDITS:          If you claim your property taxes on your income tax and file a homestead credit with the State of Michigan, do not include the administration fee or any special assessments in your total, with the exception of the Fire Special Assessment for fire protection services.   You should be able to claim the fire assessment as it is a township-wide assessment.  The State of Michigan has been giving many taxpayers trouble over this detail, but the current information I have is that township-wide assessments are treated like property taxes.  Ultimately, the State of Michigan makes the rules, but taxpayers should check carefully on this subject.
